Four annual events stand out as among the most important gatherings and celebrations of Jesuits in the New Orleans Province. These include:
Men who are considering a Jesuit vocation are invited to attend these gatherings and thus experience first-hand the spirit of joy and celebration that so characterize these special times.
Two Jesuits were ordained in June of 2008: Frs. José Fetzer and Mark Mossa.
The Jubilee Celebration recognizes and honors Jesuits who have reached certain milestones of service as Jesuit brothers or priests. This year's gathering was on Sunday, July 29th in New Orleans. The next Jubilee celebration will be on July 27, 2008. All are welcome; please contact Fr. Paul Deutsch, SJ, if you would like to attend.
The entrance day of new Novices and the Vow Mass are traditionally combined into one celebration on August 14-15, at the Jesuit Novitiate in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. Again housing is available for guests. Contact Fr. Paul Deutsch, SJ, to make arrangements.
Of course, one of the most important events for anyone considering a vocation as a Jesuit brother or priest is a discernment weekend which is described in detail below.
Any man, whether young or middle-aged, considering a vocation to ministry in the Church especially anyone considering the Jesuit way of life as a possible choice.
No cost other than travel. Some financial assistance is also available for those whose budgets are limited.
Each man attending will be assigned a Jesuit director with whom he will meet daily in private direction for guidance through this silent experience of prayer. The discernment retreat also includes time for meeting and socializing with Jesuit novices and scholastics.
