Ways To Give

There are many ways to make charitable contributions that support the programs and activities of the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus. A well-planned gift can combine financial and charitable objectives by providing tax benefits and helping you achieve personal goals.

The most common ways to make a gift are the following:

Current Gifts

Cash: Checks, cash or money orders are simple, immediate ways to give. They provide the Jesuit partnership with funds for immediate use and a donor with immediate satisfaction. You may also make a multi-year commitment, payable over time.

Securities: These are ideal gifts, particularly if the securities have appreciated in value, because of the charitable tax deduction you may receive. If sold by an individual, the proceeds are subject to the capital gains tax. If donated, however, the gift value is the fair market value of the stock on the delivery date to the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus.

Real Estate: The benefits are similar to those provided by securities. The gift is determined by the appraised value of the real estate. It may be advantageous to give real estate to the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus and possibly realize income and estate tax savings, especially if the property has appreciated in value.

Personal Property: Objects of art, rare books, furniture, coin/stamp collections, automobiles, boats, and other such items may be donated to the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus.

Planned Gifts

Bequest: A bequest to "The New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus" can be for a designated dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or a specific piece of property. It can be designated for either general or restricted purposes. A charitable bequest reduces the taxable portion of your estate for federal tax purposes.   More...

Life Insurance: A new or existing life insurance policy can make an excellent gift. A modest annual premium payment for a new policy can become a significant contribution, without affecting other assets intended for family members. By designating The New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus as the owner and beneficiary of a policy, you may qualify for an immediate tax deduction.

Gift Annuities: A Jesuit Gift Annuity can provide a substantial gift to the New Orleans Province, while providing income, estate and gift benefits. Money can be paid to a person, a couple or family members, depending upon the arrangement created. The Jesuit Gift Annuity should complement your personal financial plans.

Burses — a memorial or honorary fund — are an excellent and long-term way to honor a family or individual, a Jesuit, or mark an occasion. Once established with an initial gift, additional contributions can be made at any time. Many donors give to burses monthly or yearly. Other individuals and/or family members can also contribute to an established burse, by mentioning the name of the burse when making their gift. Burses can also be funded through bequests or other planned gifts. A list of all current burse donations, along with the honoree's name or memorial, is published annually in The Southern Jesuit. To establish a burse, please call 1.800.788.1719 for further details.
