Additional questions or instructions about how your generous gift to the campaign can best meet your needs can be addressed to the Province’s Development Office at 504.571.1055 or 800.788.1719. We will gladly assist you further.

The Province has previously adopted these protocols for the handling of gifts and pledges, which you may find helpful to review:

  1. The payment period of a campaign major gift pledge should extend no more than five years from the date of the pledge. Most pledges are encouraged to be completed within three years.
  2. Gifts of securities will be recorded at the average of the high and low market price on the date the donor relinquishes control of the asset in favor of the Province.
  3. Gifts of real estate will be credited at the professionally appraised, fair-market value. The real estate shall have no encumbrances placed upon the donation and should be marketable within six months to a year of reception.
  4. Gifts of life insurance will be counted in the campaign at the cash surrender value of the policy at the time of the gift. To be counted, the New Orleans Province Jesuits must be assigned as the owner and irrevocable beneficiary of the policy.
  5. Gifts of jewelry, art work, antiques, etc. will only have a value placed upon them after a professional appraiser has rendered such. The Province Development Office is unable to assess a value to an item or give a receipt with a value placed upon it without a professional appraisal or other pertinent documentation.
  6. Bequests will be recognized upon receipt of payment. The name(s) of the donors shall be entered into the Book of the Perpetually Remembered.
  7. Gifts from donors of a life income plan (including a deferred annuity) will be recorded in the campaign total at a discounted value of the assets donated based upon the present value of the future interest. In all cases, the Province must hold an irrevocable remainder interest. This is generally, although not always, accounted at approximately 50 % of the annuity value. The taxable deductibility is as per standard norms for such gifts and calculated at the time of the donation.
  8. The projected income from a lead trust will be recorded as a pledge (at full value if donor(s) is 75 or older, at net present value if donor(s) is 60 to 74 years of age).
  9. Bequest intentions will be reflected in the campaign total at a discounted value. To qualify for inclusion, the donor and other intervening beneficiaries must be 70 years of age, provide a copy of the pertinent section(s) of the document, and provide sufficient information necessary to place a dollar value on the Province's expectancy.
  10. The Provincial retains authority to approve exceptions to these guidelines. His determination will remain consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. For matters of accounting and gift naming opportunities, the Provincial may elect to seek the counsel of the Campaign Steering Committee or others.
